About London Vascular Specialist Dr David West
Following medical and surgical training at Leeds Medical School and medical and surgical posts in London, Hull, Cork and Birmingham, Dr West chose to specialise in the emerging field of Interventional Radiology, recognising its potential to provide an effective and less invasive alternative to surgery for vascular problems. Having worked with leading pioneers in the field, he is committed to providing safe, non-surgical treatments for varicose veins that result in a swift recovery with no scarring.
Veincentre: non-surgical treatment of varicose veins in London
With state-of-the-art facilities and friendly, high quality service, Veincentre in South Kensington offers expert evaluation and treatment of varicose veins at fair and reasonable prices. All treatments are performed without the need for general anaesthetic or surgical incisions. Consultation and treatment can be undertaken in the same visit, with most appointments lasting under two hours.
To ensure the best possible outcome in each individual case, Dr West personally conducts a colour duplex ultrasound scan at the beginning of each appointment. This is in order to accurately assess the nature of the problem and plan treatment, as even the most innocuous-looking spider veins may be an outward sign of valve damage in a more major underlying vein.
Dedicated exclusively to the treatment of problematic veins, Veincentre mainly uses three modern methods of vein destruction, allowing them to treat 99% of patients who visit their clinic with non-surgical techniques:
Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA)
Suitable for patients with twisted or short veins, EVLA involves the insertion of a thin laser fibre through a needle puncture. The laser heats up the wall of the main feeding varicose vein (the great saphenous vein), destroying and closing it down. Some discomfort and bruising may be experienced, but rarely significant enough to prevent participation in normal activities.
Also known as radiofrequency (RF) ablation, VNUS closure uses high frequency radiowaves delivered through a fine instrument to heat and destroy the wall of the great saphenous vein. VNUS closure is associated with very little bruising and discomfort post-procedure, although it may not be suitable for all patients.
Safe and effective varicose vein treatment in London and the UK
In addition to Veincentre London, Dr West is the founder of five other Veincentre clinics, conveniently situated in Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stoke on Trent and Nottingham. Registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), a recent audit of the clinics demonstrated effective treatment in 99% of cases with a 1% recurrence rate over 5 years.
Veincentre clinics are recognised by all major UK insurers, and aim to provide the most up-to-date and efficient techniques at affordable prices. Low cost credit is also available, if required.
