Harley Street surgeon reports rise in thread vein procedures

thread vein procedures

A growing number of people are having cosmetic procedures to treat their spider and thread veins, a private surgeon has revealed.

According to consultant vascular surgeon Brian Newman, many patients are keen to enhance their appearance to avoid discrimination in the workplace.

Dr Newman runs clinics in Glasgow, Harley Street and Greater Manchester which specialise in minimally-invasive spider and thread vein treatment, and he has pioneered a procedure called thermocoagulation, which uses microwave technology to eliminate thread veins and rosacea.

He said: "Rosacea and thread veins on the face can knock sufferers' confidence and sadly there are misconceptions about the cause of face reddening.

"I've treated patients who are worried colleagues will mistake a red nose as a sign of alcoholism and others who are concerned their acne-like rosacea is a sign of poor diet and health."

Dr Newman said that poor self-confidence can hold people back from achieving their full potential at work and claimed that the recent 60 per cent rise in appointments at his clinics is largely due to people investing in themselves at this time of economic instability.
